Recent research concerning the social, emotional and educational, development of gifted children shows that gifted and talented children can have wildly varying problems and special needs, including:
•Asynchronous learning development (learning highs and lows): Very advanced capability and confidence in some areas contrasted with poor performance, anxiety, and helplessness in other areas.
•Issues with work completion: Inability to meet deadlines or finish assignments even when the subject matter is known to the child.
•Lack of focus and attentiveness: Daydreaming and losing attention and focus on the work at hand can sometimes be confused with attention deficit and other behavioral problems.
In addition, parents have problems finding adequate support networks to work with schools, other parents, and finding friendships that nourish their children. Our support groups for parents are fully effective!
